Uchiha Madara was the first Sharingan user to activate Mangekyu Sharingan. The secret of activating this kind of jutsu was to kill his best friend. And that was what Uchiha Itachi did upon learning the secret of the Mangekyu Sharingan.
He was mentioned on the early Naruto series and is also mentioned by the Kyuubi on the first episode of the Naruto Shippuuden.
Now, why do I am thinking that the leader of the Akatsuki is Uchiha Madara?
Well, just think of it. There was no news whether Uchiha Madara was already dead or not. What was revealed on the old Naruto anime series is that Madara’s secret on the Mangekyu Sharingan was used by Itachi in obtaining his own Mangekyu. And since the way they obtain power was a crime under the Konoha Laws, then Madara probably left the Konoha and form his own group. That was what actually happened to Itachi.
Consider this pronouncement of the real leader of Akatsuki:
Tell the remaining member to hurry and capture their own Jinchuuriki. Soon, all our goals will be achieved and everything will be as it should be, The Sharingan’s true power, my power, Uchiha Madara’s power,…
By this, I can say that it might be true that Uchiha Madara was the real Akatsuki Leader.

ok. you guys should think whose the one with 1 eye in konoha,. root leader konoha..the one whose spying and want orochimaru dead. and dont forget. the one who got access to graves of dead uchiha,

ok a lot of this stuff you guys are saying but some of it is wrong too… ok before the hidden leaf village was established the senju and uchiha clans were the most powerful and feared warrior clans in the who ninja world… they soon became rivals because of the constant fighting with each other they had. the leader of the uchiha clan was madara uchiha. he and his younger brother were the first two uchiha’s to unlock the mongekyou sharingan. both mardara and his brother started going blind because from the day you unlock the mongekyou so much strain is put on you’re eyes you start going blind. to save his older brother madars younger brother WILLINGLY gave up his eyes granting madara the perfect momgekyou sharingan. some time later senju offered uchiha a peace offering. every uchiha execpt madara wanted peace. madara felt like his brother would have died for nothing if they agreed but he reluckantly agreed. then senju and uchiha became the village hidden in the leaves. the leader of the senju clan ( hashirama senju ) was chosen be the first hokage. madara tried to tell everybody that it was a bad idea for fear that uchiha would be mistreated and eventually overthrown. madara ask uchiha to help him challenge the leaf village but they said he was just power hungry and they shuned him. madara fought hashirama all by himself at the valley of end. he lost, fled the village and started akatskui. as a sign of trust the second hokage made the uchiha the military police force of konaha. the act of trust was actually to keep an eye on them. some years later the kyubi ( 9 tailed fox) attacked the village. everyone thought the uchiha was behind the attack because they were the only people who could control the kyubi even thought they weren’t behind it. after the uchiha were moved to the back corner of the village they finaly figured out that they were being watched. they soon started to plan a takeover. sasuke was kept in the dark about this because he was so young. the person beind the takeover was sasuke’s father.

Retlaxam, thats totally a thumbs up for your comment. One thing that makes naruto superior above all other almost in the same genre anime is that story doesnt have to revolve around the main character at all times. Many fillers gets the other characters shine on screen, thus eliminating the monotony of a commonplace story..
LOL.. kishi does get fans coming up with speculations to no end.. the story all goes back to the time uchiha reigned as one of the strongest clans known.. in the end ( i presume ) naruto will play the biggest part of changing the flow of time, the fate of the uchiha clan will be depending largely on his interference..

Besides, i think i might have an interresting point here. I have a small feeling, that uchiha madara might be Danzou (leader of ANBU root). They have the same Hair style. The both have rinkles in their face. and Danzou covers the eye that Madara uses, and madara covers the eye that Danzou uses.

This forum has become such a spam fest. I agree with scarred on that last point, The Uchihas are way more interesting than Naruto, I enjoy Naruto because it doesn’t focus around all this “chosen one” shit it focuses on other stuff too
